Winters Change by Hannah
It is fairly common knowledge that Paul and I turned a dream into reality when we moved here to get away from winter.
I really had no idea what was in store for us – I just trusted that this is where we needed to be and followed that feeling. I have learned so much and met so many interesting people by moving to San Pedro (in person and online).
I chat with a lot of people on the internet (especially since I joined the message board and started my blog). They all have a different spin on why they keep coming back, or want to move here someday and what they get from the San Pedro / Ambergris Caye experience.
Here is a piece from Hannah (age 10) who moved here with her mom dad and younger sister and her insight about spending her first Winter on a tropical island.
Winters Change by Hannah
Some how, it feels like Christmas. It gets dark early and I am usually wearing a sweater. The palm trees are always swaying in the wind there are waves pounding on the reef. Instead of air conditioning at school, we open windows and the pool is too cold to swim in. We are learning about faraway places and our minds gears are constantly turning. The class is now quiet with each person deep in thought. It is common for me to find myself deep in thought in the middle of math class. Fishing tournaments have ended and the bragging of fish weights, and length has too. Thoughts have now turned to the oddity of snow; and the fact that we are so cold in the warmth; and that those in the cold are warm. In spare time it is not strange to be thinking of extra actions or phrases to add to your character in the Christmas pageant. Though the days are a bottle overflowing with of sand we find ourselves bored with school and yearning to daydream and be in another place. We somehow find a way to squeeze in the time for homework; and such as well as time for talking idly, and watching TV. Days pass, weeks pass, months pass, and somehow we don't mind for now we're on island time, no other time exists, and our passion alone for a desirable thing stays our single passion.
