They Helped Save Puppies and Kittens
Friends of the Humane Society (FOTHS), continued their fundraising drive with a huge Sunday Market in Central Park. With the generous support of San Pedro Town Council, FOTHS raised money by charging a $1.00 entry fee for everyone who wanted to grab some great deals on clothes, shoes, books, food and drinks. Everyone who bought an entry ticket was entered into a free raffle.
The generous and supportive community of San Pedro came out in force, enjoying fantastic homemade fudge, masterful milkshakes, fabulous fresh burgers and wonderful wings. There were amazing bargains with everything from rugs to rucksacks up for low low prices. SAGA Humane Society had a stand providing free advice about pet healthcare and they even brought along a couple of puppies so everyone could see how important the work that they do is. They were delighted to find loving new homes for the two puppies.
FOTHS is working hard to raise money to improve the facilities for SAGA Humane Society. As the island grows, so does the pressure on the Humane Society to provide a good service to the whole community. Even people who don’t particularly care for animals benefit greatly from the work that SAGA does to reduce the stray population of cats and dogs in San Pedro. This is why facilities need to be improved and expanded to ensure that the Humane Society can operate effectively and continue their difficult work.
FOTHS is thrilled to announce that $2502 was raised at this event and the momentum will continue. FOTHS is committed to ‘Helping our Pets One Step at a Time’. This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from both businesses and individuals who went out of their way to make sure the event was a spectacular success.
Lime Bar & Grill/Tour Centre created a special event for the occasion, providing a full English Breakfast all morning, with a percentage being donated directly to FOTHS. Locals and expats crowded the bar for the traditional English Breakfast consisting of two eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, potatoes and toast.
The Playa Lounge donated a $50 bar tab, while Seaside Realty donated a number of items to sell and Lino’s gave a great discount on meats for the BBQ. There were so many gifts, donations, offers of help and practical assistance given that it would be virtually impossible to thank everyone. So please know, that if you helped in any way, FOTHS and the animals of San Pedro thank you.
The winners of the Grand Raffle prize were Matt and Jo King, who scooped a gift basket including an Ipod Nano. There were many other smaller raffle prizes and many happy winners. Gecko Graphics created a brilliant Wheel of Fortune especially for the Sunday Market and this will be an ongoing opportunity to raise funds, so drop into Lime Bar & Grill if you’d like to play and win a great deal on discounts all over San Pedro.
FOTHS will be holding many exciting fundraising events in coming months. If you would like to learn more about FOTHS or how you can help raise funds for SAGA Humane Society, please email fothsbelize[at]gmail.com or make an online donation to SAGA through their donations page.
