Gumbo Cook Off

Image
Been up since 6 am and very busy ever since - blogging setting up massage room and doing correspondence before exercise class. Gumbo cook off seems a million miles away right now - we have to go to Carole's at 3:30 to get haircuts and I still need lunch and a rest break in there. Cart pic above is the one indygal is selling check message board post for details and contact info . With all that going on today you know there's more coming. We ran into Pedro on the way to Carole's so he offered us a ride. Aside from getting our haircuts we got to hang out a bit with Carole and her Aunt Denise which was nice - we are all so busy lately that sometimes it is harder to get together. Just got word Lime is offering a message boarder special right now... Anyone who comes into the Bar at Lime and says "I say old bean, how does one become a Limey?" gets a special - 5 beers for $20 Bz (or buy 4 and get 1 free), OR $8.00 Mojitos. Don't forget to say it with your Best (Wors...

Abrupt awakening

Image
5:59am on the dot we woke up to rain pouring down and we both jumped out of bed quickly closing windows as fast as we could - Paul took the upstairs and I did the downstairs. Once again it was not even 5 minutes later when the rain stopped and the sun came out. I did something his morning I have been meaning to do for months now - finally joined Expat blog . I was surfing Theresa's What I do all day blog as someone wrote me after seeing the interview in Islands Magazine and were considering between coming to Belize vs going to Mérida, Mexico so I sent them her link to browse what life in Mérida is like. While catching up on her blog, I happened upon the Expat widget and decided it was time. I also sent them link to Blah Blah Blah Ginger! blog although they currently live in Akumal, Jonna and Mimi just bought a 100+ year old colinial house in Mérida last year and have been renovating it - been enjoying following their process. So glad to have met the Mexico bloggers they are such...

Special Delivery

Image
We were enjoying our usual morning iced coffee's when Josimar turned up with a special delivery of elephant ears fro RLD - Yum. Since last night I have been going through and cleaning up my computer so I can finally back everything up - a long overdue and very important thing on my list. For all the hours I have put in I am almost finished the folder of pictures from my old camera. That leaves 2 more picture folders and everything else. Hoping to be done by early next week - but thinking I may need a time-out in th before I hit the music section. Took a break earlier to go meet Dick and Carole at Perk and I am ready for another one now - running out of steam and my stomach is telling me I need to stop and eat before going any further. 5:06 PM I am back on my pezzi chair for a bit. It is it a couple of inches to low for my desk so I have to pay attention to what I am doing when sitting on it so my shoulders do not get hunched up. Finally made it to second folder of pictures. I am w...

Playa Lounge - Grand Opening

Well, tacoblog aficionados, we have a little something different today. actually, a LOT something different. Last night, Playa Lounge had a soft grand opening. For those that don't know, a soft opening is when there isnt a lot of press, just a little quiet "we are open" sorta opening. But, this is San Pedro, and we are really good at "go big or go home"....last nights soft opening was no different. Playa Lounge is located across from the Tacklebox and Caye Caulker Water Taxi, in the former Cannibals space. Not that you could tell...it looks NOTHING like it used to. Unfortunately, my camera doesn't work, and no one else brought a camera, so pics are coming. In the meantime, I'll describe the scene: Everyone who is anyone was there, all swank and dressed just as cute as can be. Throughout the night, which started at 5 pm and didn't end till after 1am (shhhh don't tell town council!), at least 150 people stopped in. Pedro, Kathy...

Spotty Internet

Image
Our internet has been very spotty lately especially last night. I thought we were ok today and I was catching up on Mexico blogs (see my links section to find them) and writing rsvp email to the Latin American Bloggers Meeting when we started bouncing yet again. Just checked the tv and it is down too I cannot even watch what not to wear while waiting for the internet to go back up ha ha – left tv on mute to see if service comes back soon. Paul is using the time to get a couple of buckets of laundry on the go. I had been thinking about doing same this morning but that thought was short lived as I got distracted by my morning lap top and coffee time. Since I have a few blogs loaded before the net went down I will continue my reading. 4:50 pm still bouncing like a ping-pong ball – this is getting old fast. 6:58 pm trying to get a few pics up of todays parade to go with this post and no luck as of yet - I seem to be able to stay on net although it is slowed to a crawl but not stay logged...

Colonel Sanders Cousin lives in San Pedro

Image
Tonight was mini grocery night but neither of us felt like cooking so we decided to take the advice of a local friend and give Sun Up Restaurant a try. While we were waiting for our fried chicken, we popped over to Super Buy to grab a few things on our list by the time were were done our food was ready. Paul and I both agreed that Colonel Sanders cousin must have retired here in San Pedro and has and shared his brothers secret recipe with the folks at Sun Up. The skin although not quite the same has that spiced flavor to it. The chicken itself actually tastes better because it is not so fast food chain like buzzard. The price was right to at $6.25 bzd each, I got fried rice and Paul got french fries and traded off some to each other. I will say though that this can only be an occasional treat as it kind of has the same affect on our bodies as eating North American fast food. Think they forgot to add the vegetables ha ha. Lime flavored chips for an after dinner snack

Hot Thursday

Image
Our apartment is so hot today. We will go for a walk later to cool off and poke around town. Hoping to get inspired about what to do for dinner. Sometimes I wish they had food pills like when the Great Gazoo sent the Flintstones to the future and got served small pills on a plate. It would make life so much easier. Anyone who knows me knows I am a foodie lol and I probably could not trade the eating experience for a pill, unless of course it was chew-able and tasted like the food ha ha. Enough rambling we just got an invite to go swimming at Oasis. Dinner worked itself out, after swimming Carole and Dick asked us to come by for fresh fish, so we rode home to change and walked back to their place.
