Game night

Image
Been raining off and on all morning - short heavy bursts. That did not stop us from going to perk for a morning coffee. Drummer Jim and Zippy were there - Coleen said she is fighting a loosing battle in wiping down the counters. I am totally wanting to get a camera set up like Mark now as he is fully waterproof and has no worries for rain or boats. Unfortunately my camera starting to show minor effects of salt air. Wish we had the option to buy more waterproof gear here. My new rain cape works good, but since the sides only have 2 snaps I could see getting wet if there was a lot of wind with the rain and I really need a waterproof bag. Off to check eBay and see if I can find anything good in that area. After we got home, Dick rang and asked us to go for game and movie night tonight. I told him I would pass that along to Paul and Cindy and we could do pot luck. With it being rainy we all agreed was perfect way to spend our Saturday night. I am ready to crack open The game of life that I

More power outs

Image
Rain was heavy last night -woke me up at 4 am and power was going in and out. When I got up at 6 am still not power so I turned on crank radio and picked up my book. I think it is safe to say we are all getting tired of these long power outs and it is putting a bit of a crimp in daily life. Power came back on around 7 am sometime so I decided to get washed up – apparently not our water is still not back on yet neither is the internet. I am going to have to resort to a spray bottle shower shortly as I need to get to central park for the kids march this morning. 1:33pm Power went out again. Marvin Gaye what's going on is playing on love fm - a perfect song to go with the rain outside. Reading Memphis Magazine that Carbunketrumpet sent so I can pass it along to Elbert when I am done. The issue he sent was about Martin Luther King Jr. While taking pictures at the march today, Cullen mentioned that the storm center is supposed to hit south west Belize at 5 pm and bring 15 inches of rain

Ugh

I just got back from the store - spent $16 Belize for 1 green pepper, 1 yellow pepper, 1 bag snow peas and 2 stalks of celery. Ouch! If it were Saturday I could get 2 bbq chicken dinners from John in the park for that price. I even checked through the peppers for light ones so that I would not wind up paying for a heavy seed packet inside (our old roommate Jerry was very specific in teaching me that). I picked 2 stalks of celery out of a package (yes you can do that here) because I was thinking in the moment and only wanted enough for tonight's dinner fish and veggie stir fry. There must be a better way. The upside is I have re-oiled our new wok that Cindy gave us - she got it from Alan and I am looking forward to trying it out. Night sky

Less is more

Coleen at Island Perk turned me onto Dr Bronner's soap a while back. I mentioned the liquid soap briefly in a past post this week, but I got to thinking it needed a post of it's own. We all need to start thinking little things we can do and products we can use that help keep the natural beauty of Ambergris Caye. Where to start? After looking up the 18 uses of the soap, I found out through various people's trial and error that they would not necessarily recommend all 18 uses but one thing was clear everyone was hooked on the product. One person even wrote that a 32 ounce bottle will last over half a year, making it a great bargain. With Dr Bronner's less really is more in addition it going a long way, the ingredient list is short and sweet. Ingredients: Water, Saponified Organic Coconut*, Organic Palm* and Organic Olive* Oils (w/Retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Essential Oils**, Citric Acid, Vitamin E A few other good points to consider about wh

Space clearing

Last night at Hideaway Sharon mentioned that there was a family in Belmopan area of Belize that needed help - they had a house fire and lost everything. She is organizing a stuff drive to send things over there this weekend and collecting anything that people want to donate. Luckily I did not go through my things as well as I could have for the stuff swap so I am sure I can find more to clear away. If you have anything to donate please contact Sharon through her blog or email me through the one listed in my profile. Paul left his bike down south so we decided to enjoy a nice evening walk to go pick it up from Paul and Cindy's place. Stopped at Canucks on the way for a refresher. Going Green

Last night went to see Lara Paul h and Jim doing fire show for a wedding at Ramon's. Was a great show they were all in sync and the wedding party loved it. Afterward Lara, Tim, Tina, Derek and I went to Fido's to watch Gino and Jim play. Got into some great conversation with Jim and Derek on marketing and going green. Found out that Derek met Donny Deutsch one of my favorite people for inspiration. Derek said that he is the same in person as he is on tv - I always pictured him to be genuine and for some reason I was glad to hear that he is who he appears to be. ---More to come on that -power went out earlier so instead of having a rest time and getting my blog done I headed to hideaway to meet the gang and we all went to Hidden Treasures for dinner. Right now I need to be horizontal with remote in my hand.--- When I got home from Fido's I was all inspired and excited. Paul was sleeping so I decided to watch tv a bit. I happened to come across Forecast Earth on the weath

Sunday Brunch at Rico's

Image
We are off to meet the some of the brat pack and give Sunday brunch buffet at Rico's a try. Last weekend was their first one so we figured let them iron out the kinks and then go enjoy. Brunch is all you can eat - $25 bzd - 8:30am - 2pm - indoor and outdoor seating available. What a great time chatting with friends and grazing at the buffet for a couple of hours - ok well maybe I did more than graze ha ha. When we arrived they were just in process of restocking the buffet - we got to enjoy eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, bacon, salad, fruit, a custom made omelet. They brought out chicken curried rice and another dish as well but by that time we were too full to keep tasting it all. Afterwards Paul and I came home happy, full and enjoyed quiet time listening to oldies on Love fm.
